NEW YORK (AP) – Kevin Spacey has been chosen to host this year’s Tony Awards, putting the award-winning celebrity of “House of Cards” in the unenviable position of steering a telecast certainly facing a post-“Hamilton” hangover.

The telecast on June 11 will emerge from the 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall, and manufacturers are sure to be keeping their fingers crossed that they avoid any technical or human snafus that have marred previous awards shows this season, including the wrong winner declared in the Oscars and sound difficulties in the Grammys.

Spacey, who won Oscars for the films “The Typical Suspects” and “American Beauty,” won a Tony Award in 1991 at Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers” and starred in the Broadway and West End productions of “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” With a foot in the Broadway and Hollywood – along with a career singing onscreen and from concert to boot – Spacey brings charm and acting abilities to your occupation.

In a declaration, he uttered to the telecast manufacturers Waiting to get a host following other actors dropped out. “I was their next choice to get ‘Usual Suspects,’ fourth choice for ‘American Beauty’ and 15th decision to sponsor this year’s Tony Awards. I believe my career is definitely going in the right way,” he explained. “Perhaps I can get shortlisted to sponsor the Oscars if everybody else turns down it.”

Makers expect Spacey will restrict the audience erosion probably from the amounts last year after “Hamilton” and sponsor James Corden attracted 8.73 million viewers, up 35 percent from 2015 and its largest crowd since 2001. Past hosts include Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Lane and Sean Hayes.
