Ariel Dumas, an author for CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, came under fired this weekend after tweeting that despite Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court verification, she’s “simply thankful” that his life was “spoiled.”

“Whatever happens, I’m simply thankful we spoiled Brett Kavanaugh’s life,” Late Program writer Ariel Dumas tweeted.

The tweet was later on deleted, and Dumas followed up by offering up an unenthusiastic apology. The last couple of

weeks have been hard for the nation and also for me directly. The complexity of irritation, anger and also despair can not be precisely shared on twitter, and also I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it.– Ariel Dumas(@ArielDumas) October 7, 2018″The last couple of weeks have been tough for the nation and also for me

personally. The intricacy of frustration, temper as well as despair can’t be precisely shared on twitter, as well as I regret my tone-deaf effort at sarcasm following it,”she tweeted Sunday.Whatever the reason for her tweet, it seems that this kind of rhetoric serves to Stephen Colbert.Colbert has actually frequently engaged in excessive anti-Trump rhetoric. Drumming presents us with a stunning experience where we can be free to connect with ourselves and others, in order to restore and heal. It’s been said that drumming is an universal language where all people can be a part of, free from words and concepts so we can experience life with an open heart.

Current research now shows the therapeutic effects of drumming. Research indicates that drumming accelerates physical healing and boosts the immune system.

In addition specific studies conducted by professionals in music therapy and mental health show us that drumming reduces tension, anxiety and stress, helps control chronic pain, boosts the immune system, and releases negative feelings, blockages and emotional trauma.

In this specific study conducted by Barry Bittman, MD, group drumming actually increases cancer-killing cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as many other viruses.

“Drummers,” writes Jordan Taylor Sloan at Mic, “can actually be smarter than their less rhythmically-focused bandmates.” And according to the findings of a Swedish study (Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm) shows “a link between intelligence, good timing and the part of the brain used for problem-solving.” As Gary Cleland puts it in The Telegraph, drummers “might actually be natural intellectuals!”

I personally don’t know these kids, but I believe they are natural intellectuals.

One thing is for sure… they know how to put a show on and make the crowd enjoy their performance!

Director Peter Medak’s 1980 ghost story The Changeling may not be as well-known as, say, Halloween or The Shining, but this chilling tale is held in scarily high regard by a group of famous filmmakers, including Martin Scorsese — who in 2015 named it as one of the scariest movies of all time — and Guillermo del Toro.

“I was in London at the BAFTA Awards and Guillermo was screaming, ‘You’re my mentor! You’re my mentor!’” says the Hungarian-born Medak. “I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He said, ‘Your movie The Changeling is just a masterpiece.’ It’s just nice to hear that from fellow directors whose work I love and respect.”

The Changeling stars George C. Scott as a composer named John Russell who, following the death of his wife and daughter, relocates to a huge and remote mansion in Seattle, where he finds himself being haunted by the ghost of a child who died there many years previously.

“The script frightened me the right way,” says Medak, whose other directing credits include  and . “I wanted to make it very psychological, so it didn’t have any cheap shocks in it. That was very important to me.”

Medak was partly inspired by Robert Wise’s atmospheric 1963 movie The Haunting, whose set Medak visited early in his career.

“It was shot in England and I wanted to get a job as a first an assistant director [on The Haunting], which I didn’t,” he says. “But I got to know Robert Wise, and I happened to be shooting next stage, next door on the same studio, MGM Studios in Boreham Wood in England. And so a couple of times I walked on the set and I watched Mr. Wise shoot and it was fairly unforgettable. I remember when I read that script, I was so petrified. When I was reading [the script for The Changeling] I just knew how to make a good and frightening, psychological, supernatural thriller out of it.”

The Changeling itself, which costarred Trish Van Devere and Melvyn Douglas, was mostly shot in Vancouver.

“The whole house was a set,” says Medak. “It was all built on three floors, and it enabled me to go from room, to room, to room, to room, which was great. I had a wonderful time. It was just very fun. It was a very easy shoot actually for me, and working with George was incredible. It didn’t make a lot of money, but it didn’t cost a lot either, you know. But I certainly was very happy with the film.”

On Aug. 7, Severin Films is releasing a 4K scan of on Blu-ray in a Special Edition which includes commentary from Medak and producer Joel B. Michaels, and interviews with music arranger Kenneth Wannberg and art director Reuben Freed, among other bonus features.

“It makes me very happy,” says Medak of the release. “They’re trying to remake the movie, and it’s a very nice way to exit, to have a great copy of the film for future generations. I love the film very much and I want to do everything to prolong its life, as long as it can be. It’s very nice that it’s noted as one of the great ghost stories.”

It seems as though sparkling vampires and pouty teens have fallen out of favour lately, with Twilight picking up the title of Worst Movie Ever.

Before I get kicked to death by a gang of angry Robert Pattinson fans, let me just tell you that this isn’t my personal opinion – I’ve never seen Twilight, so would have to choose Jack and Jill as the Worst Movie Ever, which made me both angry, for obvious reasons, and sad for Adam Sandler.

Nope, the title was actually voted for by the public on website Ranker. So don’t shoot the messenger.

The movie, which spawned a couple of sequels (that also feature on the list of Worst Movies Ever) and was very popular with teenage girls, was based on the popular book series by StephenieMeyer and made mega-stars out of its lead actors – Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

But popular doesn’t always translate to ‘good’ or ‘worthwhile’, does it? And its currently the highest rated Worst Movie Ever, according to the site.

And it’s not just the general public slamming the trilogy. Audio commentary website RiffTrax – run by Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, former stars of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, who we can safely say know bad movies when they see them – has also put Twilight at its Worst Movie Ever top spot. Ouch.

However, over on IMDB Twilight has a 5.2 rating and 49 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Not great, but certainly not Worst Movie Ever territory, surely?

According to IMDB, the worst film is called Saving Christmas and it has a 1.5 rating. Not good.

I’ve not seen the movie, so I won’t go in, but it stars Kirk Cameron and Darren Doane and, according to this trailer, it’s weird as fuck:

There’s also a bunch of movies with a big fat zero on Rotten Tomatoes, including Saving Christmas, the widely panned Gotti and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol – not sure how that one got on the list, to be fair, must be some sort of mistake.

In addition to Beyoncé, other musical acts included her husband Jay Z (pictured together), Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams and Chris Martin.

Five members of the Congressional Black Caucus took a $60,000 trip to see Beyoncé and other stars perform in concert in South Africa late last year, according to congressional disclosure records.

The lawmakers were U.S. Reps. Gregory Meeks of New York, Barbara Lee of California, Bobby Rush of Illinois, Terri Sewell of Alabama and Hank Johnson of Georgia, according to the data.

They attended the “Global Citizen Mandela 100” concert from Dec. 1-3 to celebrate the centenary birth of the late Nelson Mandela and raise awareness of global poverty. In addition to Beyoncé, other musical acts included her husband Jay Z, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams and Chris Martin.

The lawmakers appeared in a photo that the Rev. Al Sharpton, who also attended the event, posted on his Twitter page.

The trip was paid for by Global Citizen, a nonprofit that lobbies for anti-poverty programs around the world, the Washington Examiner reported. The group said the presence of members of Congress at the concert would “showcase America’s ongoing commitment [to] health equality and global human rights.”

Other celebrities at the event included Oprah Winfrey and “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

“In the spirit of Nelson Mandela, we pledge to keep working with our colleagues in Congress, across the country and across the aisle, to make sure that every child in Africa and at home has the opportunity to thrive and grow in a safe and prosperous world,” Meeks said, according to the Examiner.

“As a Sr. member of the Foreign Affairs Comm[ittee] who understands the importance of both multilateral & bilateral relations on trade & foreign policy, developing that relationship is crucial,” Meeks said when asked how the trip was related to his congressional duties.

The National Legal and Policy Center, a watchdog group, called the trip a “mockery.”

“These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives,” Tom Anderson, president of the NLPC’s Government Integrity Project, told Examiner. “This was in fact, a mockery of House ethics rules on gifts and travel, the truly poor, and all Americans that expect members of Congress to live not only by the letter of the law but by the spirit and intentions of the rules of the House of Representatives.”

“These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives.”

A representative for Sewell said her travel “was pre-approved by the House Ethics Committee and was not paid for at taxpayer expense” and that “Rep. Sewell and several other members attended the Global Citizen Mandela 100 Festival, a platform for world leaders to speak out against racial injustice and inequity, and voice their support for international assistance for underprivileged populations.”

According to the travel itinerary, the congressional members were in South Africa for one full day and used two partial days for travel.

In January, a group of Democrats was criticized for flying to Puerto Rico for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC gathering in San Juan, where they also attended a special performance of the Broadway play “Hamilton.”

Nearly $10 million was transferred from Federal Emergency Management Agency to help U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
